Her family had to move to different places in Texas during her childhood, from where she finished high school while working in the cotton field with her parents in Memphis. Mayra’s parents were migrant and farm workers and like other migrant children, she had to move to other places as she grew up. She spent a few years of her life in the Rio Grande Valley.


She completed her high school in 2004 in San Benito, TX. She worked with her parents to earn money for her school clothes, clothes and other necessities.
