Early Life
Tommy Lee was born on October 3, 1962, in Athens, Greece in the family of an American U.S. Army sergeant, David Lee Thomas Bas, his father, and mother Vassiliki “Voula” Papadimitriou. He grew up along with his sister, Athens, in California as their family moved when he was two years old. His love for drums was appreciated by his parents. They bought him his first drum sticks when he was four and later a proper drum kit when he was a teenager. Not much information about his education is available online but it is known that he dropped out of high school to start his career in music.

Tommy’s career began when he dropped out of school and started the L.A. club band Suite 19. It gained popularity in the 1970s when the band became a regular in the Sunset Strip club circuit in Los Angeles. He met Nikki Sixx there, who was forming a theatrical band. Nikki was very impressed by Tommy’s drumming. In 1981, they finally came together to make a new group, where they were joined by the guitarist, Mick Mars and the singer Vince Neil. They called the band Mötley Crüe. They soon gained popularity and released their first album “Too Fast for Love ”. Not only for his drumming skills, he soon became infamous for his indecent behavior in the concerts. The band often consumed heavy drugs. Lee temporarily left Mötley Crüe and formed a band called Methods of Mayhem in 1999.
But the band was soon disassembled in 2000. In 2002, he released his first solo album, Never Dull A Moment. In 2004, he rejoined his first band and the band launched their first tour in 2005, The Red, White & Crüe Tour 2005: Better Live Than Dead. Tommy released his second solo album, Tommyland: The Ride, and his autobiography, Tommyland in the same year. He formed a new band in 2006 which was called Rock Star Supernova. In November 2007, it was revealed that Tommy had bitterly left the Mötley Crüe band after the other members had some issues with his manager, but in 2008, he toured with the band once again.
Rise to Fame
From 2009-2011, the band, Methods of Mayhem was reformed and performed various projects. In 2014, he performed on the Smashing Pumpkins’ Monuments to an Elegy album. That same year, he rejoined the band Mötley Crüe and the bandmates for the group’s farewell tour. Other than his music career, he is also involved in the film and TV industry. In 2004, he produced and acted in a reality show, Tommy Lee Goes to College. Soon later, he filmed for the reality TV show, Battleground Earth. He recently appeared as the Devil in the fictionalized musical horror podcast, Halloween in Hell.
