Greene served one year for the company and Channel 39 and after that, he moved to a rival station, then-NBC affiliate KGTV. Years later in 1977, Greene left San Diego and had a brief stint at CBS affiliate station KPIX-TV in San Francisco. He spent a year in the Bay Area and later returned to Los Angeles and rejoined KABC-TV where he started working as co-anchor for the 5:00 pm newscast Eyewitness News with the legendary Jerry Dunphy. He spent two years in the company working on KABC-TV and bringing the news daily in the evening time to ordinary people. Later, he was fired. Then, he returned to San Diego and joined his old evening anchoring slot but during the time, he was rehired by the station KABC as the reporter and weekend anchor working alongside Joanne Ishimine. Later in 2000, Greene switched his job from the channel KABC and signed his tenure with another station KCBS in January 2001. During his time at the KCBS channel, he reunited with his former colleagues like Ann Martin, who worked with him for the Eyewitness News, and Jim Hill, who was the veteran sportscaster including two other old colleagues who all worked with him at KABC namely Diaz, and weatherman Johnny Mountain.
