Amber Heard was born on August 22, 1986 to her loving and caring parents, Patricia Paige, an Internet researcher, and David Clinton Heard, who owned a small construction company. Heard was brought along with her younger sister named Whitney. The Heard family grew up outside of Austin, where the family went horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. Heard was raised Catholic, but came out as an atheist at age 16 after seeing one of her closest friends die in a car accident. After the incident, Heard became uncomfortable with the thoughts of being a Texas conservative and God-Ferin. Consequently, she dropped out of Catholic high school and started her acting career in Los Angeles. She eventually graduated from home study.

Private life
From 2008 to 2012, Amber Heard was in a romantic relationship with Tasya van Ree, one of the entertainment industry personalities and photographer. The relationship got so serious that Heard legally changed her last name to Van Ree, but later returned to her birth name in 2014. Later in 2009, Heard was arrested for a domestic violence case after she was caught hitting and grabbing Van Ree, but she was never charged with the assault.
